You are cordially invited to join the Temple Beth El Choir as we celebrate the coming of spring on Sunday, June 11 at 3:00 pm with a Swing Dance Spectacular! "Isn't It Romantic?" is the name of this wonderful event, an opportunity to listen to the wonderful music of the 1930s and 1940s. When was the last time you heard old beloved favorites like More Than You Know, Java Jive, I'll Be Seeing You and Mood Indigo sung live in close harmony? Growing from Jazz roots, Swing exploded in the 1930s and 1940s with great composers, performers and bandleaders like Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Artie Shaw.
The Temple Beth El Choir will be joined by the First Parish Choir, Unitarian Universalist as we bring back warm memories for those who grew up with this marvelous music and create new memories for those who have never really heard these gems outside of an elevator. The grittiness and complexity of some of these arrangements must be heard to be truly appreciated. Cantor Ruth Ross will sing a set of songs made famous by torch singers of the 1930s: Libby Holman's Moanin' Low, Jane Froman's Lost In A Fog, Hildegarde's Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup, as well as jazz standards Bidin' My Time, Blue Heaven and These Foolish Things.
Between sets of vocal music, we present the instrumental stylings of Alan Price and his extraordinary Spring Fling Combo offering the very best of the swing dance era and an opportunity to shake a leg too! Price and his fabulous combo will play the toe tapping, finger snapping music that makes you itch to dance. So wear your dancing shoes because this will be a grand opportunity to strut your stuff on the Temple Beth El Dance Floor. Professional dancing skill is not required; we love your moves whatever they are! Should you require refreshment between rotations around the dance floor, delicious snacks and pastries will be available.
Tickets are a bargain at $7.00 each. Buy several and bring your friends. This is a celebration you - and they - will not want to miss.
