Temple Beth El Identity
Welcome
to Temple Beth El
Temple Beth El, is a Conservative congregation of approximately
400 families located in Portland, Maine. It is affiliated with
United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism of America and offers an open
and inviting atmosphere through which each congregant can find an
opportunity for individually meaningful religious expression.
While traditional
religious services form the basis for the temple calendar, professional
and lay leadership are supportive of congregants seeking personal or
group approaches to alternative Jewish expression. The Temple sponsors Sisterhood and
Brotherhood, active adult education programs, Hebrew School classes for children and
adolescents from kindergarten through grade 12. Special Saturday morning
Junior Congregation services, as well as Kol Yeladim services for children up to age 5 extend
worship participation to children of all ages. In addition, Temple Beth
El encourages several Chavurot in the area.
Flexibly designed
family and individual memberships are available to meet the needs of
individuals and families with special living circumstances. Area college
students are eligible and encouraged to participate in services and
activities. The Temple also invites new
memberships and welcomes both families and singles to participate in our
stimulating array of religious and social programs throughout the year.
